Garden Route Tour: 11 days

Day 1:

 

Western Cape Province - Hermanus -

From Cape Town along the Atlantic seaboard, over Chapman's Peak as far as Cape point. We then crosses the peninsula to False Bay and follows the scenic coastal drive to Hermanus where we enjoy the seasonal whale watching at Walker bay. This is one of the place to watch the annual whale migration. Whalerock Lodge B.L Bed & breakfast basis

Day 2:

 

Western Cape Province - Knysna -

We drive with our guided tour via the southernmost point of Africa at Cape Agulhas also known as the "Foot of Africa" where the Indian and Atlantic ocean meet. We will move further inland to Swellendam, which is the third oldest town in South Africa, then to Mosselbay to see the postal office tree and finally the picturesque coastal village of Knysna.. Day 3:

 

Western Cape Province - Knysna -

Enjoy a full day tour in the beautiful "Garden Route" area around Knysna. We will take the steam train ride on the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe between George & Knysna and also the Ferry Boat trip on the Knysna Lagoon. We will also spend time at the Knysna Waterfront. Bradach Manor (B.L.D)

Day 4:

  Eastern Cape Province - Addo Elephant National Park
Our today's route is along the Indian Ocean coastline, past the holiday town of Plettenberg Bay, through the Tsitsikamma forest to see the "Big Three" the to Port Elizabeth before going to the Addo Elephant Park Woodall Country House (B.L.D).

Day 5:

  Eastern Cape Province - Addo Elephant National Park
Another full day to explore this magnificent reserve. Since the re-introduction of lion in September 2003 Addo has become one of South Africa's "Big Five" reserves thus we will enjoy the wonderful game viewing in Addo. Woodall Country House (B.L.D)

Day 6:

  Eastern Cape Province - Tsitsikamma Forest
Enjoy an early morning vehicle game drive in Addo before we start to drive back to Port Elizabeth and then along the main road for a visit to the Tsitsikamma National Park. Accommodation is at a beautiful lodge deep in the lush Tsitsikamma Forest. The Fernery (B.L.D)

Day 7:

  Western Cape Province - Oudtshoorn
We drive a short distance back towards Port Elizabeth in order to follow the alternative, inland route known as "Route 62" to Oudtshoorn, the "Ostrich capital of the world". Here we will enjoy the guided tour on a working ostrich farm. La Plume Guest Lodge ( B.L.D)

Day 8:

 

Western Cape Province - Montagu

A short detour to the famous Cango Caves, then further along Route 62 to Montagu, best known for it's natural hot water springs, rugged mountain scenery and sugary sweet wines.

Today's highlights:

  • Guided tour through the subterranean caverns of the Cango Caves

  • Spectacular mountain scenery

Accommodation: Montagu Country Hotel. Bed & breakfast basis

Day 9:

  Western Cape Province - Franschhoek
Via Robertson, Villiersdorp and the spectacular Franschhoek Pass to Franschhoek, in the heart of the Western Cape Winelands.
Today's highlights:
  • Franschhoek Pass
  • Hugenot memorial
  • Gourmet dining in Franschhoek

Accommodation: Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek. Bed & breakfast basis

Day 10:

 

Western Cape Province - Franschhoek
A full day to explore the Winelands. Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl are some of the main towns, with numerous wine estates spread throughout the area.
Today's highlights:

  • Wine tasting

  • Cellar tour in Paarl

  • Picnic lunch at a wine estate

Accommodation: Residence Klein Oliphants Hoek. Bed & breakfast basis

Day 11:

  End of tour
Back to Cape Town for a drop-off at a hotel or guesthouse of your choice, or the Cape Town International Airport.
